A school has two jobs on the security side: keep the wrong people out without making the building feel like a fortress, and give staff a fast, simple way to act when something goes wrong. Phoenix Security & Technology designs and installs school security systems for private, charter and faith-based schools, preschools and early-learning centers across the Valley.

Door card reader and lever lock, part of a school security system with lockdown in Phoenix

One controlled front door

Most school security plans start with the entry. During the school day, every visitor should come through one door, be seen and be let in on purpose.

  • Video intercom at the main entrance: the front office sees and talks to the visitor before unlocking the door, from the desk or a phone.
  • Secure vestibule: where the building allows it, a second locked door so a visitor waits in the vestibule until the office checks them in.
  • All other exterior doors locked during the day: staff badge in; doors are monitored so a propped door alerts the office instead of staying open.

Access control and one-button lockdown

Access control systems replace keys with cards, fobs or phones that can be issued to staff and cancelled the day someone leaves. Schedules unlock doors for drop-off and lock them when the bell rings. Most importantly, a lockdown can be triggered from the office, an administrator’s phone or a panic button, locking every controlled door at once instead of sending someone down the hall with keys.

We also cover the doors that matter after hours: the server and IT room, the nurse’s office and medication storage, records, gym and athletic equipment rooms, and the kitchen.

Cameras where they help

Good school camera coverage is about the places adults need to see, not about watching students in class. We cover:

  • Entrances, the front office and the visitor vestibule.
  • Drop-off and pick-up lanes, parking lots and bus loops.
  • Hallways, stairwells, cafeterias and gyms.
  • Playgrounds, fields and the fence line.

Administrators can pull up live and recorded video on a phone, and AI search finds a person or vehicle in minutes instead of hours of footage. Every camera and recorder we install is NDAA-compliant; if your school still runs Hikvision or Dahua, see our camera replacement page.

Panic buttons and alarms

Fixed and wireless panic buttons in the front office, administration and other key rooms send a silent alert to the 24/7 central station, which dispatches police and notifies school leaders. After hours, intrusion alarms on DMP panels protect the building, with alarm monitoring through our partner AZ Security Control and video verification when cameras are tied in.

Built on recognized guidance

We design around a layered approach: property perimeter, parking and grounds, the building entry, then classrooms and interior spaces. The federal SchoolSafety.gov site and the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS) guidelines are good references for school leaders, and we are happy to walk through them with your safety committee.

Work scheduled around the school calendar

  1. Site walk: entrances, drop-off traffic, doors, existing cameras and the incidents or concerns you already have.
  2. Design and written quote: door and camera layout, lockdown plan and phasing that fits your budget, including what can be reused.
  3. Installation: loud and disruptive work scheduled for evenings, weekends and breaks, with our own background-checked technicians on site.
  4. Training and service: office staff training on the intercom, lockdown and video, plus a maintenance plan so it all works on the day it matters.
